Women's The fish row

On 4 March held Helga Katrina Tryggvadóttir lecture in Vik-Maritime Museum by the Icelandic Lighthouse company (delete)-club for Icelandic coastal culture. As she told about a research she did for the Ministry of Transport in 2008. The objective was to assess the number of women who attend the sea in Iceland, working conditions, experience of work and attitudes of society. The proportion of women seafarers has been and is today very high, but women in Iceland, however, pursued sea for centuries. There does not seems be lot of discrimination or prejudice against women at home and explain why women do not sea to a greater extent be found in the cultural norm rather than the fear of prejudice. Slides from lecture published here but research in its entirety can be found at website under the title "Working Women at Sea"
